Remodeling a bathroom involves making many decisions. Choosing a bath vanity top can leave many feeling confused. There are so many materials to choose from, it’s easy for a consumer to make a decision based solely on appearance. Appearance is important but means nothing if the top has to be replaced every five years.
Consider durability, maintenance, and affordability in junction with looks. When it comes to resilience in a bath vanity top you want to consider the following things:
•Will hot appliances (such as curling irons and flat irons) leave burn marks on the surface?
•Will acetone harm the surface? (Think nail polish remover.) •Can makeup and hair dye be buffed out?
•Are the drains and overflow drains plastic lined? (This will prevent mold or mildew.) •Will the surface chip or break on impact? •How thick is the wear layer? (A nice, thick wear layer will ensure a long life.)
•How easy is it to clean and maintain?
•Will the top fit on the vanity without alterations? (Alterations can compromise the integrity of the surface)
The hardest thing about finding a bath vanity top is choosing which material to use. Some materials are low cost but don’t hold up well to the elements described above. Some are extremely sturdy but will cost a pretty penny. Below is a table to help lay out advantages and disadvantages of some materials.
