The wood vanity top has remained a popular design option for centuries. With many of today’s designers turning to cold, urbanesque materials like glass and steel, wood offers a warm, traditional alternative for the home. Wood can be used to create straight, clean lines; or it can be carved into highly ornate designs.
The most popular materials for manufacturing a wood vanity top are usually oak and cherry.
Both woods offer a richness that other materials just don’t have, and can be stained and finished to match many color motifs. Refinished antique vanities are also a popular option.
The main disadvantage of a wood vanity top is that they are not nearly as scratch or stain resistant as other building materials. Wood is easily nicked and has to be refinished occasionally. It is also not nearly as heat resistant as other materials, and as such shouldn’t come into contact with heat sources like curling irons.
